A Nepali folk song

06 Mar

The following is a folk song I learned while visiting Sindrwati village. I thought you would appreciate how beautiful the Nepali songs are.

English translation will follow the Nepali.

Lekhaka hami ketaketi (We are the children of the mountain)

Kuhiru bitra eschool chaa (our school is in the clouds)

Chauri charuda dinbit chaa (we take the yak to the pasture every day)

Padna ra lekna muskil chaa (it is hard to learn to read and write)

I am tired after a long day visiting Kalimati, the poor area of Kathmandu. More about migration emigration and child labor in Kathmandu tomorrow.

Suba ratri (good-night)!
